Crazy Days at Big Block Studios

A while back I mentioned how INNOCEAN rendered services from 3d house Big Block. Located in Santa Monica, I can tell you that these guys were equally passionate about the work as much as we were. Every morning, we would dog pile into their biggest studio, arm us with red laser pointers and let us begin the design process for all our vehicle models.

While the app was in development, we began rendering three Hyundais for the apocalypse. I initially rooted to have the Genesis in there but, the vehicle was undergoing some changes. So we went with the Veloster Turbo, Santa Fe, and Elantra. At Big Block, we worked with a very talented illustrator named Daniel Lim to help build out the parts for each vehicle.

Part creation was tough. We not only had to create the part, we also had to design the same part three times to fit each vehicles body type. So a horde plow that fits a Veloster Turbo obviously wouldn’t fit a Santa Fe. Right? Anyhow, you don’t get these many opportunities to direct a person to design a spiked bladed front grill in the ad world. So it was a treat.

The production process was tedious. From the get go, we asked Skybound to provide us with the key image to use for something such as a flame thrower to spiked windows. Cory Walker, from “Invincible” fame, provided a grip of incredible images for us!

From there, we would have to create various iterations of the armament. Finally, we would render it for app integration. This went on for about one month. In my opinion, Big Block were incredible with us. Plus they served one helluvah breakfast every morning!
